Lima Allen County Paramedics Bicycle Response Team was established in order to provide prompt Advanced Life Support (ALS) response to patients in large scale and confined crowd outdoor events.  EMS response to such events proved to be difficult when attempting to gain access to patients via squads and an alternative method was needed.  Now during certain outdoor events, our Bike Response Team can arrive at a patient's side within minutes with the full compliment of ALS equipment.

Lima Allen County Paramedics' mission is to provide the highest quality patient care possible and these needs were met with a trained Bike Response Team.

Until this year, there has only been police bike patrols but no EMS bicycle response at events in Lima.  Appropriate levels of care have been on standby for such special events, however the ability to get the appropriate care to those in need posed the biggest obstacle.  LACP has now implemented the care to portable units that can travel to places an ambulance could never get to and take advantages of shortcuts not available to a squad. Public safety has also increased since we are not trying to respond through large crowds with full-sized ambulances.

At this time, the Bicycle Response Team operates in an ALS mode.  Equipped with oxygen, defibrillation, advanced airway, and fluids; the Response Team can respond to any call of service to such events.  The Response Team also carries a variety of injury treatments to include bandages, splints, and ice packs.

The team currently consists of nine members, who have been certified in bicycle safety and response training.  As seen in the pictures below, the Bicycle Response Team participates in on going training in preparation for large scale and confined crowd space events.  Training includes actual ride practices and maintenance to bikes to assure uncomplicated response.
